Digium, Inc.
Asterisk PBX & VoIP

Asterisk: an open source software implementation of a telephone private branch exchange (PBX). Just like any PBX, it allows a number of attached telephones to make calls to one another, and to connect to other telephone services including the PSTN. The original Open Source PBX

.

Asterisk (the open source PBX system) was created by Mark Spencer, founder of Digium, Inc. Mark believes that every technology he creates should be given back to the community.

This is why it is fully open source. Today that model has allowed it to remain available free of charge, while it has become as robust as the leading and most-expensive PBXs

It is a complete Private Branch Exchange (PBX) contained within a software that can operate with most standards-based telephony equipment using comparatively inexpensive hardware.

He is also the creator of GAIM, the cross-platform instant messenger which brings a user's accounts from the major messenger applications under one roof (i.e. AOL Instant Messenger, Yahoo Instant Messenger and others).
